As described in the Magarini Mangrove Participatory Forest Management Plan (2025–2030).
Mangroves are highly valuable ecosystems with exceptional environmental importance, including carbon sequestration rates up to ten times higher than terrestrial forests. They support both local and national economies and provide critical ecosystem services. However, they face threats such as over-exploitation, land-use conflicts, pollution, sedimentation, wildlife conflicts, and impacts from salt firms. The programme aims to ensure sustainable management of mangroves while maintaining environmental integrity.

Magarini Mangrove Community Forest Association is a non-profit grassroots association dedicated to conserving mangrove forests, protecting biodiversity, and supporting sustainable livelihoods.
